Southern Taiwan Office of Kumamoto University

Kumamoto University is located in the center of Kyushu, Japan, and is one of Japan's prestigious national universities.

Since 2008, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology (STUST) has signed a sister university academic exchange agreement with Kumamoto University. The collaboration includes mutual visits by scholars, student study tours, and short-term teaching by faculty members, resulting in frequent and close exchanges. A student exchange agreement was also signed in 2008, and to date, nearly 350 STUST students have participated in short-term study programs at Kumamoto University. In September 2009, both institutions signed a dual doctoral degree agreement. Starting in 2014, faculty and students from Kumamoto University have participated annually in international conferences hosted by STUST, engaged in joint teaching with STUST faculty, and co-learned with STUST students. Furthermore, in October 2015, a dual master’s degree agreement was signed to jointly cultivate international talent.

Due to the close and active academic and cultural exchanges between the two institutions, Kumamoto University established the Southern Taiwan Office at STUST on March 8, 2019.

The purposes of the Kumamoto University Southern Taiwan Office are as follows:

a) To promote academic and student exchange with partner institutions in Taiwan.
b) To facilitate direct international cooperation with partner institutions in Taiwan.
c) To provide information about Japan and Kumamoto University to academic institutions and students in Taiwan.
d) To strengthen the networking base among alumni in Taiwan and institutions engaged in research collaboration.
e) To support other international activities of Kumamoto University in Taiwan.
