Do I have to join Taiwan's NHI? How do I apply?

According to the National Health Insurance Act, international students who have stayed in Taiwan for more than 6 months must join the NHI by law.

Please prepare a copy of your ARC (front and back) and submit it to the L305 OIA office.

How much is the NHI fee? How do I pay it?

The NHI fee for students is about NTD 826 per month (subject to official announcements).

The school will collect it, usually together with your tuition fees.
If you have any questions, please contact the staff in charge.

How do I use my NHI card?

Required for medical visits: Your NHI card is your medical ID in Taiwan.>
Where to use: Present it when visiting contracted clinics or hospitals.
Co-payment: You still need to pay registration fees and partial charges.
Lost or damaged: Please bring your ARC to the NHI office for replacement.

My salary slip shows a deduction for NHI. What should I do?

Please check with your employer and provide your insurance certificate to the school coordinator.

I'm graduating but want to stay in Taiwan. Can I keep my NHI under the school?

After graduation, your student status ends, so the school cannot continue as your insurance unit.

If you get a job, your new employer must cover your NHI.
If job-hunting, you can apply to change your insurance unit to your local district office.

I'm graduating and going back home. Can I throw away my NHI card?

After graduation, the school will help you terminate the insurance, but do not throw away your NHI card！

If you return to Taiwan in the future, you can reuse the same card.
If you're sure you won't use it again, you can cancel it at the NHI office, but keeping it is recommended.

I've started a part-time job off campus. Will my NHI automatically switch to my employer? Do I need to notify the school?

Once your employer enrolls you in the NHI, the school will NOT automatically be notified of this change.

Please proactively inform the school's NHI coordinator once you start working, and attach proof of enrollment (a screenshot from the NHI Express App or a certificate issued by your employer).
If you do not inform us, the school cannot verify your enrollment status, which may delay any future changes to your NHI.

After I resign from my part-time job, will my NHI automatically transfer back to the school?

After resignation, your NHI does NOT automatically transfer back to the school. If your employer does not process the de-enrollment in time, or if you do not notify the school yourself, you may experience a gap in NHI coverage that affects your access to medical care.

Please complete the "NHI Enrollment Change Application Form" as soon as possible after resigning, and attach proof (a screenshot from the NHI Express App or a resignation certificate from your former employer) so the school coordinator can process your transfer back.
Before the transfer is completed, please be aware that you may need to pay out-of-pocket for any medical visits.
