Welcoming Newcomers and Embracing Tainan: STUST Cultural Day Opens the Door to Taiwanese Culture for International Students

Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology (STUST) kicked off a unique cultural activity on October 6, 2023, bringing together 43 international freshmen from different countries including Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, Argentina, South Korea, and Japan. The activity aimed to introduce international students to the campus by integrating interactive activities to deeply experience Taiwanese culture. It served as an ice-breaking game for international students, setting off their journey in Taiwan on a positive note.

The university warmly welcomed the new arrival international students, creating a cozy atmosphere filled with laughter and warmth. Besides immersing themselves in the local culture, students also explored the charm of Tainan's historical sites, delving into local history and understanding the cultural richness of Taiwan firsthand, experiencing its most sincere and authentic hospitality.

Strolling leisurely through historical landmarks, indulging in local delicacies is essential. The event provided international students with the opportunity to handcraft traditional Taiwanese snacks, learning about the local culinary culture beyond their own countries and enriching their Taiwanese experience. Refraining from rigid learning structures, the activity threw open the doors to Taiwanese life, giving students unfettered space to experience and explore the culture on their own terms.

Through interactive exchanges, international students established closer relationships with each other and formed deeper connections with the local community. This deepened their understanding and sense of belonging to Taiwan, laying a solid foundation for their future study and life in this land.

STUST will continue to organize diverse cultural day activities to provide international students with more opportunities to delve deeper into Taiwanese culture, while also promoting exchanges and integration between international students and the local community.
