When Tainan Meets Japan: A Cross-Cultural Learning Journey through Wutiaogang
In May, students from the Department of Applied Japanese at Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology (STUST) joined university students from Japan for an enriching intercultural learning experience in Tainan’s historic Wutiaogang district.

Before meeting in person, Taiwanese and Japanese students collaborated online through an International Project-Based Learning (iPBL) program, exploring topics related to Wutiaogang’s history, cultural heritage, and local life. During the onsite activities, participants visited historic sites and cultural landmarks, gaining a deeper understanding of Tainan’s rich history while exchanging perspectives from different cultural backgrounds.
In addition to cultural exploration, students worked together on group presentations, transforming their observations and research findings into creative projects and multimedia presentations. The program not only enhanced students’ communication skills and intercultural understanding, but also fostered meaningful friendships between Taiwanese and Japanese participants.

Through international partnerships and collaborative learning opportunities, STUST continues to promote global engagement and intercultural learning, empowering students to broaden their horizons, develop global competencies, and connect with the world.
